Cookie Policy

1. What these things are

A cookie is a short text file a website asks your browser to hold on to. Come back later and the browser hands it over again, which is how a site remembers that you have already answered the age question. Local storage does the same job by a slightly different route, and this page covers that too — in fact most of what we use is local storage rather than cookies proper.

2. How we ask

A bar appears at the foot of the page the first time you arrive. Until you answer it, nothing beyond the strictly necessary is written. You can Accept All, Reject All, or open Cookie Settings and decide one category at a time. Refusing everything optional costs you nothing — no part of this site is withheld on that basis.

Your answer is remembered for twelve months. Change it whenever you like through the Cookie Settings link at the bottom of every page.

3. What is actually written

The measurement and campaign entries appear only if you have agreed to that category. Refuse it and they are never written at all. Agree and then change your mind, and we stop writing them; the ones already there can be cleared from your browser in the usual way.

4. Nobody else is watching

There are no advertising networks, social media widgets, session recorders or heat maps anywhere on this site. No third party receives anything about your visit. Where a page links outward — to a helpline, say, or to the Privacy Commissioner — that organisation's own practices take over the moment you follow the link.

5. Doing it from the browser instead

Every browser can show, block and delete cookies, usually under Settings and then Privacy, and most can do it site by site. Blocking the necessary ones will mean the age question reappears on every page and your cookie choice cannot be remembered. Nothing will break.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, we read it as a refusal of the measurement and campaign categories and do not ask again.

6. The legal footing

Measurement and campaign entries rest on your consent. The necessary ones rest on the site needing them to work at all. Where any of this can identify you, it is personal information under the Privacy Act 2020, and the access and correction rights set out in our Privacy Policy apply to it exactly as they do to everything else.

7. If this changes

Add or remove anything and the table above changes with it, along with the version number at the top. If a new category ever appears, we ask again rather than assume the old answer still stands.
